You will have to search to find your favorite hunting or fishing spot, but it’s there. Arrowrock Dam and Lucky Peak Reservoir are great year-round fishing spots as well. Though, to escape some of the hunting pressure, many hunt a little further north, near Arrowrock Dam. Many deer and elk winter in the Boise Front, so hunting can be very good close to town late in the season. The elevation rises pretty quickly, hitting 7,500 feet at the summit. The foothills are where many valley residents find their deer. The Boise Front is located just north and east of Boise- from downtown to nature is about fifteen minutes. They are very helpful, as will likely be your neighbor or other fishermen on the stream. The Boise area has a Cabela’s and several similar outdoor recreation stores to help you get set up for fishing locally. Twenty-inch “rainbows” are common! Fly fishing is popular, though the river remains uncrowded and limits are set to maintain this valuable habitat in the middle of the city. Homes in Southeast Boise, Garden City, and Eagle can give you this! The Boise River is home to wild rainbow trout, whitefish, and steelhead. Imagine walking out your door and being on the river, surrounded by old cottonwood trees, and hearing the sounds of the water. Also, homes with property for sale are found right next to the Boise River. Lake Lowell, near Nampa, is a bass fishing hot spot, so have a peek if that’s your thing. Surprisingly stout trout, bass, and bluegill are five minutes from home. There are ponds throughout the Treasure Valley that are stocked year-round by Idaho Fish and Game.
